Nada Odeh
MA. Museum Studies
Is a Syrian artist, curator, activist, and founder of Arabesques and QuartsX. Born in Damascus, she lived in Saudi Arabia and the UAE before relocating to the U.S. in 2013 due to the conflict in Syria. Her art—rooted in acrylics, Arabic miniatures, and Middle Eastern visual traditions—focuses on themes of displacement, identity, and the experiences of Syrian refugees, particularly women in exile. Nada holds an M.A. in Museum Studies from Syracuse University, where she was a recipient of the 100 Syrian Women, 10,000 Lives leadership scholarship, and a
B. F.A. in Fine Arts from Damascus University. She was also a fellow of the Intercultural Leadership Institute.
Arabesques Story Nada's journey as an artist and museum professional led her to establish Arabesques in 2018, soon after completing her master’s, to create a space for community engagement and cultural education through art. She has curated and exhibited across the U.S. and the Middle East, and collaborated with institutions such as the New York Folklore Society to spotlight immigrant and refugee narratives.

Dr. Mustafa Gökçek
Ph.D in History
Dr. Mustafa Gökçek is a historian specializing in the Middle East, Islam, and Central Asia, with a focus on the late Ottoman Empire and early 20th-century intellectual movements. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and teaches courses on Middle Eastern history, Central Asia, and the Soviet Union/Russia.
Akram Shibly
MFA, Play writing and screen writing
Akram Shibly is an award-winning independent filmmaker based in New York, known for powerful, human-centered storytelling that bridges cultures and sparks conversation. A graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a degree in Digital Media Studies, Akram is currently pursuing his master’s in Screenwriting at DePaul University. His documentary Waiting at the Door, which follows the lives of Syrian refugees, won the Grand Jury Prize at the SUNY Wide Film Festival in 2016 and continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. Through his production company, Akram creates films that explore identity, resilience, and the shared human experience. Driven by a passion for truth and representation, Akram’s work is rooted in his belief that storytelling can inspire empathy, shift perspectives, and build stronger communities.

A dedicated public health professional with a background in medical research and a passion for community service. With years of experience in both clinical and public health settings, Wafaa has contributed to improving health outcomes through data-driven research, education, and community outreach. She is a committed volunteer and advocate for underserved populations, using her expertise to support initiatives that promote health equity and cultural understanding. In recognition of her outstanding service and impact, Wafaa was honored with the “Woman of Distinction Award” by the New York State 142nd Assembly District for her dedication to volunteerism and contributions to local communities. Her work continues to bridge public health and grassroots engagement, empowering communities through care, knowledge, and compassion.
Paul Hage
MFA Communication - Founding member
Paul Hage is a seasoned musician, composer, and multi-instrumentalist with over 30 years of experience performing Arabic and jazz music. Known for his dynamic range and deep musicality, Paul has performed in a wide variety of venues and cultural settings, captivating audiences with his ability to blend traditional Middle Eastern sounds with the improvisational soul of jazz. He is the founder of Mirage, a genre-defying jazz band that infuses Arabic musical influences into contemporary compositions, creating a unique and soulful fusion. Under his leadership, Mirage has become known for its expressive performances and cross-cultural sound that bridges East and West.
Molly Sleiman
MBA & MA in Business and Law
A special attorney with over 20 years of experience specializing in real estate and business law. She leverages her deep legal expertise to provide strategic, client-focused advice that helps individuals and businesses achieve their goals. Beyond her legal career, Molly is deeply passionate about and connected to MENA/WANA culture and art, actively supporting initiatives that celebrate and promote the rich heritage of these communities. Known for her dedication and commitment, she brings the same care and clarity to her clients and cultural advocacy alike.
Todd Kranock-Alaghabar
MA in Advanced Practices of Conflict Resolution
A professional with over 15 years of experience in social services and child protection, specializing in trauma-informed approaches to support families and communities. Based in Buffalo, NY, he has held key roles in various organizations, including the International Rescue Committee and Save the Children, where he developed and implemented programs for youth affected by conflict and adversity. With advanced degrees in Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies, Todd has a strong foundation in advocacy, case management, and program development. He is committed to building resilience among vulnerable populations and has contributed to significant increases in funding and service access throughout his career. Todd is also an active volunteer, dedicating his time to organizations like the American Red Cross and local community initiatives.
Amal H. Sleiman
MS in Rehabilitation Science
For over 20 years, Amal H. Sleiman has dedicated her career to serving with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, guiding service-connected veterans through the often-challenging transition to civilian life. Her work focuses on helping individuals discover new opportunities, rebuild confidence, and navigate both psychological and physical challenges on their path to success. Amal holds a Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling and is also a licensed real estate professional—an intersection of expertise that reflects her passion for empowering people while contributing to community and economic growth.
